The Poconos
Boston and NYC
So these are some of my photographs that I developed and printed in the studio in response to the idea of similar things we do at home in a completely different culture, some of these are from Boston city which is really similar to Oxford and London and I'm going to post some others from hiking in the mountains in Pennsylvania which is really similar to woods we'd find at home...

posting pictures

To post pictures you have to make a new post and then there are icons for images/films/links etc along the top of the box. Like this (above) Hopefully this is the same for you - let me know. i think the good thing about the format of this blog is it lets you play around with the interrelation between words and images more easily than facebook where things are more separated
One way to proceed would be to just start experimenting with posting images and text without necessarily coming up with a definite idea straight away. Perhaps just post images and then reply to each others images with further images. Like a weird game of snap or some sort of psychological test/game. You have talked a lot about ressemblance and familiarity. Perhaps other peoples images will suggest strange ressemblances and obscure connections and so on. This might be a way of starting

Hey!
So..I quite like the title familiar in the unfamiliar, in relation with ideas of finding things that remind us of home despite being miles in different part of the world.
Also Cat, that quote about art being a way of running away without leaving home..could mean that no matter where we go we always find 'home.' In our case I think photography is the best way to document this as well. I will try work out how to post some photos up on here! So maybe once we see some of our photos we will get some more inspiration for the project?
I found a quote on photography too.. that once a photo is taken it is immediately in the past..so during our time abroad as we take photos we are making memories of a place we once called home. So I thought about using this idea as inspiration for some photos too.
So should we just start with that title you said jess? See where we take it from there?
Sorry this message will crop in about 3 places..think ive worked it out now..

Hello!
I need to figure out how to put photos on here- i am useless with technology haha!
I'm the same as cat with the photos, i've taken a few to do with home etc but I'm unsure exactly what our brief is!
With the questions Cat, are you talking about an overall question for the project or rules we were maybe going to use for the photos!?
The overall idea i get from the discussions on the chat is that we are all try to find the something familiar in the countries we are in, and when we do find something out of the ordinary, its exciting (if that makes any sense)
How about the title-Familiar in the unfamiliar!? Bit corny I know, but maybe a starting point?

hopefully everyone has found their way here, either through John's email or from my message on the group on facebook... have we settled on the questions yet? i've started taking photos that could relate to the discussion we've had, but obviously i'm shooting from a variety of possible briefs, so the sooner we settle on one fundamental idea, the sooner we can get the ball rolling!
also, i found these two quotes that may start as some inspiration-
Art is the only way to run away without leaving home. -Twyla Tharp

Though familiarity may not breed contempt, it takes off the edge of admiration.
